16. Julia Gillard

UK

In April 2021, Gillard became the chair of the U.K.'s Wellcome Trust, a biomedical research foundation with a more than 36 billion pound endowment.

Gillard is perhaps best known as the former prime minister of Australia; the first woman to hold the role, she served from 2010 to 2013.

As Australian PM, Gillard played a crucial role in the country's economic recovery following the financial crisis of 2008.

At the end of 2023, Gillard stepped down as chair of Beyond Blue, Australia's leading mental health awareness organization. She'd served as chair since 2017.
