21. Halla Tómasdóttir
Iceland
Halla Tómasdóttir was sworn in as President of Iceland in August 2024. She bested former Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir in the country's June election.
Tómasdóttir is the second woman to serve as president, and cites the historic 1975 Icelandic Women's Strike as her original political inspiration.
Previously, she served as CEO of The B Team. Founded by Richard Branson, the nonprofit seeks to promote environmentalist-aligned business practices.
Tómasdóttir herself cofounded investment firm Auður Capital in 2007, and in 1998, served on the founding team of Reykjavik University, establishing and leading a women's entrepreneurship initiative.
She began her leadership career in the U.S. and spent ten years with Mars and Pepsi-Cola, working in human resources and organizational management.
